photoshop-iphone-logoAdobe has had their web applicaition equivalent of Photoshop at Photoshop.com. Photoshop.com offers a free account with 2GB of storage space to get you started.

Photoshop.com lets you upload your pictures and edit them with a variety of rich controls through the web applications.

Now, Adobe has released a free iPhone app for Photoshop.com that brings a small subset of the functionalities to your iPhone.

Photoshop iPhone app has 2 menu bars. The top one has different effects and edit controls. The bottom bar has undo, back, forward and save button.

PhotoShop.com Mobile App Features

  • Choose a picture in your Camera roll or take a new one
  • You can now Rotate, Flip or Crop
  • Crop brings a nice grid in the picture where you can drag edges to resize to the frame you want
  • You can also apply effects such as Exposure, Saturation, Tint and Black & White!
  • You can make your pictures look like a Sketch or apply Soft Focus
  • Color effects – Vibrant, Pop, Border, Vignette Blur, Warm Vintage, Rainbow
  • Works in Landscape mode for pictures taken in that mode
  • Save to iPhone or Save & Upload to Photoshop.com

I have had other Photo Editing apps like PhotoBox to apply effects to my iPhone pics. But, the free Adobe Photoshop iPhone app takes the cake in the simplicity of its interface. The effects are minimal and few compared to some premium photo editing apps in App Store.

But, if you just want to casually crop your pictures, rotate your iPhone picture, make it black & white, then Photoshop app is going to do all that for you!

Adobe has done an excellent job with this iPhone app and I can predict 2 things. Photoshop.com app shooting to the top spots in iTunes store and increased signups for Photoshop.com. (you could learn more here)

A big mobile browser launch and mounting frustrations add up to some intriguing iPhone storylines

Norway-based Opera Software ASA’s mobile browsers — Opera Mini 4 (currently in beta for Mini 5) and Opera Mobile 10 — are the world’s most used cell phone browsers. One of the key challenges to Opera’s mobile market share over the past couple years has been Safari, the browser used on the iPhone.

Traditionally Apple did not allow third-party browsers on the iPhone. It recently relaxed these restrictions allowing third-party browsers — but only those based on webkit. Now Opera has offered a sneak peak of Opera Mini on the iPhone, leaving many unanswered questions.

Opera Mini is based on the Presto layout engine, not Webkit, and is underpinned by Java ME API calls. Opera has already been welcomed on less unrestrictive platforms, such as Google’s Android OS (which uses an emulation layer to translate the Java API calls to appropriate Android API calls). However, it seems pretty amazing if Apple actually allows Opera Mini — a huge threat to its big mobile browsing market share — on the iPhone.

Shriya travelled to India on Monday and this was a great chance for me to put the Flight Track iPhone app through its paces and share it with you.

Flight Track iPhone apps lets you track your flights easily. It is available in 2 versions Flight Track and Flight Track Pro at $4.99 and $9.99 respectively.

To start tracking a flight, you just enter the Airline, flight # and the date of travel to start tracking the flight.

If you booked your flight online, you can just forward your travel itinerary to plans@tripit.com and you will automatically see your full itinerary in Flight Track Pro without reentering all the flight info.

Flight Track Pro Features

  • Track flight itineraries without retyping flight info
  • Push notifications for flight status
  • View live flight maps with weather radar
  • Flight delay prediction with FAA warnings for airports
  • Review weather and forecast to predict delays
  • Search international flight status
  • Tap to tweet a flight’s status
  • Speed, altitude and weather for saved flights in US airspace

As Shriya was flying across the world, I was watching the flights make its way from Chicago to Frankfurt and then from Frankfurt to Chennai. I also received Push notification when the flight landed and I exactly knew when Shriya reached India.

Flight Track Pro was simple and easy to use although for the price you might feel like it is a little lacking in features. Then again I am not sure what else I would like to see besides this information.

If you are not a frequent traveler, the Flight Track app without the Pro features like Push notifications, TripIt integration, etc would probably suffice for you.

For the sky warrior, Flight Track Pro could be an indispensable tool on the iPhone with all kinds of useful flight information at the fingertips.

If you travel very infrequently, you might want to check out the FlightStats.com which has an iPhone optimized website. You can get basic flight status info for free here.
