Google just announced Push for Gmail for iPhone and a few other mobile platforms through Google Sync. This brings your Gmail messages to your iPhone instantly through Apple’s Push servers instead of the usual pull method which is a drain on the battery.
We have reviewed a few Gmail Push apps – GPush and PushMail. Boy, it’s getting really confusing.
PushGmail Features
PushGmail has a simple interface where you enter your Gmail user name and password. You get to turn on the option to ‘Launch Mail App’.
In the iPhone’s Settings –> Notifications to set up notifications by Badge, Sound and Alert. The earlier option to ‘Launch Mail App’ might have gotten you wondering. This is because PushGmail comes with a built-in native Gmail browser.
In my testing in the last 2 days, it works flawlessly! As you can see, I am even trying it as a replacement for the regular Mail app in my iPhone dock.
If you are looking for reliable Push notifications for Gmail messages without having to jump through hoops, PushGmail could be the one you need.
Also, the future versions are slated to have support for multiple Gmail accounts. Also, ability to setup filters for notifications is coming. That will be huge as I don’t want to see a notification for every single one but just my important emails.
For $0.99, with no future subscription costs PushGmail offers a very promising app here.

iTrip Controller App
iTrip has released a free iTrip Controller app in App Store. It lets you take full advantage of your iPhone or iPod Touch’s multi-touch display.
You can tune, scan or access up to 3 preset stations for your iTrip.
iTrip Controller App should work for any iTrip models released after Sep 2009 so it would just this one at the moment.
At $49.99, iTrip is a little expensive among other FM Transmitters like this one. But, it does bring some of original Griffin technology like SmartScan and SmartSound that promises to make this a more fun experience for the customer.
Once this hits the online retailers like Amazon, the price is bound to be more appealing and I will update this post.

FCC complaints on original ban likely helped the change come about
AT&T’s network woes since the iPhone launched have become legendary with the company unable to support the bandwidth that is being consumed by iPhone users. The poor performance of the AT&T network has led to bad press for the mobile provider and a number of attacks from U.S. mobile wireless market leader Verizon.
To keep the load on its network at a lower level, AT&T has a long history of banning applications that could consume significant bandwidth when used. AT&T banned 3G streaming when using the SlingPlayer app back in May of 2009 on the iPhone despite the fact that other handsets on the AT&T network were allowed to use the SlingPlayer with 3G. AT&T also originally banned VoIP apps from being used over its 3G network only to lift that ban on with the unveiling of the new iPhone/iPad SDK in January 2010.
